It's another new twist on an old idea: printing with neckties. Transferring the pattern from silk ties onto fabrics is not something I dreamed up, but I've spent many days (and nights) creating my own processes so that I can make work that is uniquely mine.
It can be hard to tell at first glance, but the front is a single piece of wool fabric. It started off pretty plain + then I 'printed' the design using silk ties. After transferring the patterns from the ties, I quilt to add more definition + interest to the design, sometimes adding some hand stitching + embellishment, making them even 'Fancier'.
Some are one-offs + some are pairs (i.e. made with the same base fabric + assortment of ties, but not identical). Because the amount of fabric in a single tie is small + finite, making duplicates is impossible + experimentation is a constant. Similar-looking ties can react quite differently, so the results can be unpredictable (as well as exciting + exasperating)! Two similar cushions are the most that will be made, so they should be purchased together if you're looking for a set.
It's carefully finished with coordinating luxurious (and durable!) chenille on the reverse,, an invisible zippered closure (yes, the cover is removable!) + filled with a quality feather-down insert, made here in Canada. Yes, Canadian made, inside + out!
